Your daily prebiotic for digestive health*
“It’s definitely improving sleep and… food cravings are abating” - Julie Hinsley.
In the BBCs' 'The Truth About Sleep', Dr Michael Mosley took Prebiotic Fibre to see if it could help promote better sleep (take 90 mins before bed), and improve gut bacteria.
As a self-confessed poor sleeper, Dr Mosley said:
"I would wake tired and irritable and began to dread going to sleep... I was convinced this disrupted sleep was rotting my brain and ageing my body."

"I would wake tired and irritable and began to dread going to sleep... I was convinced this disrupted sleep was rotting my brain and ageing my body."
However, after taking prebiotic fibre in a 5 day experiment for the BBC, he was so impressed with the changes he gave it 9 out of 10 for effectiveness for improving his own sleep.
"Our insomniac tester could not wait to give it a go. Just a teaspoon daily in water 90 minutes before hitting the hay worked wonders and resulted in a truly restful night" - The Independent.
What is Inulin?
Organic Inulin is a type of soluble dietary fibre, that our body doesn't digest.
Instead, inulin reaches our gut (large intestine) where it acts as a prebiotic: It's fermented by good gut bacteria which feed from it and increase as a result.
Good bacteria helps us to absorb more nutrients from the foods we digest.
How do I use it?
We recommend taking 1 tsp (5g) per day, in a glass of water or milk.
It dissolves in liquid and can be added to pretty much anything, including tea or coffee, as well as stirring into breakfast cereals.
For sleep, try taking 1 tsp in water or hot milk about 90 mins before bed.
If you've not used inulin before then we recommend starting off gradually.
Start with 1/4 tsp for 4 days, and increasing by 1/4 tsp every 4 days. This gives your digestive system time to get used to the extra soluble fibre.
We also recommend drinking more water throughout the day.
What does it taste like?
Inulin has a very mild sweet taste.
What are the ingredients?
Will it help IBS?
We're not qualified to give medical advice and for specific health conditions do check with your GP first of all.
If constipation is an issue with IBS then the NHS recommend increasing the amount of soluble fibre you eat, and Inulin is pure soluble fibre.
The NHS also recommend drinking more water which will help soften stools, and is also helpful when increasing your fibre intake.
If you've not taken inulin before then we recommend starting gradually with 1/4 tsp for 4 days, and increasing by 1/4 tsp every 4 days, until you're taking the recommend amount, or the amount you're comfortable with. This gives your digestive system time to get used to the extra soluble fibre.
Is Inulin suitable for low FODMAP diets?
Inulin is not suitable if you're on a low FODMAP diet (restricting the amount of certain ‘short-chain’ carbohydrates). You may experience increase wind and bloating.
Will it help Diverticulitis?
We're not qualified to give medical advice and for specific health conditions do check with your GP first of all.
Inulin is a soluble fibre, providing 4.5g of fibre in 1 tsp, and according to the NHS:
"Eating a high-fibre diet may help ease the symptoms of diverticular disease and stop you developing diverticulitis. Generally, adults should aim to eat 30g of fibre a day. Good sources of fibre include fresh and dried fruits, vegetables, beans and pulses, nuts, cereals and starchy foods. Fibre supplements, usually in the form of sachets of powder that you mix with water, are also available from pharmacists and health food shops” - https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/diverticular-disease-and-diverticulitis/

Can I take Inulin if I'm Diabetic?
We're not qualified to give medical advice and for specific health conditions do check with your GP first of all.
Inulin is soluble fibre and 1tsp will provide 4.5g of fibre.
According to Diabetes.org.uk "increasing the amount of fibre in your diet can help you manage your diabetes." - https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/carbohydrates-and-diabetes/fibre-and-diabetes
I'm on medication, can I take inulin?
We're not qualified to give medical advice regarding your medication, and you'll need to check with your GP or pharmacist first of all.
Is Inulin suitable for children?
Inulin is a source of soluble dietary fibre. The amount of fibre children need is listed on the NHS website as:
2 to 5 year-olds: need about 15g of fibre a day
5 to 11 year-olds: need about 20g
11 to 16 year-olds: need about 25g
1 tsp of inulin will provide about 4.5g of fibre.
According to your child's diet you can see how much fibre they're getting and can supplement this with inulin.
For very young children, we would suggest starting with just 1/4 or 1/2 tsp to begin with.
Is it suitable for Vegans?
Yes, Inulin is vegan friendly.
Where is Organic Inulin from?
Inulin is packed in our certified organic production facility in the UK. It's derived from organic agave, a cactus like plant which is cultivated in Mexico.
How do I know it's really Organic?
It's certified by the Organic Food Federation in the UK, and displays the Organic Logo and license: GB-ORG-04.
Our Organic Food Federation licence is: 02045/21.
How long will a packet last me?
There are approximately 50 teaspoons of Inulin in a 250g packet, and if you're taking 1 tsp a day it will last about 50 days.
What is the shelf-life of Organic Inulin?
The shelf life of Organic Inulin is 18 months from production date if your pouch is unopened and stored in a dry, cool environment, away from direct sunlight. There is a best before date printed on the back label.
Once opened keep your inulin sealed in the pouch, or for ease of use you can store in an airtight jar or container and it can be stored in the cupboard.
When will I receive my order?
All deliveries are now 100% carbon neutral.
We aim to dispatch all orders received by 3pm the same day.
Your order will be sent by Royal Mail 1st class post, delivery is usually within 1 - 3 days.
What are your shipping charges?
It's free 1st class shipping on all orders over £29.99, and just £2.99 for orders below that.
How do I contact you about my order?
You can contact us about your order, or anything else by email: contact@greensorganic.co.uk
Or you can call us on: 01394 822 012
Is your packaging recyclable?
Every Golden Greens packet is certified Plastic Neutral+ which means we're offsetting more plastic than we use, by preventing plastic waste from entering our seas.
We would switch to a biodegradable pouch tomorrow if we could, however for the time being they are not recyclable. Currently biodegradable materials are weaker and have a much shorter shelf-life.
These materials start to break down when they come into contact with moisture, making them unsuitable to store and protect organic food powders.
We use compostable mail bags to dispatch your order which are made from sugar cane. While the DPD courier bags are from recycled materials.
